Stardust Hotel Las Vegas: Was The Wedding Location Of Choice

There are some places that just seem to capture the essence and spirit of Las Vegas, and those locations are what we identify with when we think of the City of Lights. The Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas was one of those locations. The Stardust, located right on the Las Vegas Strip, was immortalized in the movie Showgirls, as well as, being a landmark building in several other Las Vegas films.

The Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas was a popular place for wedding ceremonies. It offered a poolside gazebo, in addition to two chapels. Like most Las Vegas wedding chapels, The Stardust Hotel offered wedding packages that included portraits, music, a bridal bouquet, a boutonniere, complimentary limousine pickup and a DVD or video recording of the ceremony. The nine story building with its 32 story tower were a perfect location for a dream wedding.

However, the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas closed its doors in November 2006 after just over 48 years of continuous 24 hour operation. Upon opening, the Stardust Hotel was the largest hotel in the Las Vegas area and was home to the largest casino in Nevada. At that time, the Stardust also featured the largest swimming pool in Nevada. The sign for the Stardust Hotel was the largest electric sign at the time creation and quickly became a landmark of Las Vegas.

The Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas was well-known for its entertainers up until its closing day. Rick Thomas was the magician performing at the time of closing. He had the most successful daytime show in the history of Las Vegas. Wayne Newton was also a long time performer of the Stardust Hotel. He held the record for the largest entertainer contract in 1999 when he signed a 10-year deal for a rumored $25,000,000 per year. The famous Las Vegas performing partnership of Siegfried & Roy got their start in Las Vegas at the Stardust, as well.

These are just a few of the reasons that the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas was a trademark of the City of Lights. With more than 100,000 couples coming to Las Vegas every year to join in matrimony, it is no wonder why so many couples chose the Stardust as their wedding location of choice. The Stardust also featured many other attractions such as shopping, spas, nine different dining options, fitness center, pavilion and exhibit center, a 25,000 square foot convention center and wedding chapels.

In March of 2007, the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas was imploded so that construction could begin on the $4 billion Echelon Place, which is scheduled to be completed by 2010. The implosion was celebrated with a ceremony and fireworks.

The Echelon Place will feature 25 restaurants and bars, a convention center with 1 million square feet, a 140,000 square foot casino, and four hotels offering 5,300 rooms. The Echelon Place will also be home to the Las Vegas ExpoCenter, which will offer 650,000 square feet of exhibition space and over 200 meeting rooms.
